Keeping California's Clean Energy Promise

Thirty years after Californians last fought back plans to import liquefied natural gas from overseas through terminals on our coast, Big Energy is at it again, working with Governor Schwarzenegger and his allies on the Public Utilities Commission to fast track a series of proposals for LNG terminals that threaten the environment and public safety.

Pacific Environment is spearheading Ratepayers for Affordable, Clean Energy, or RACE—a West Coast-wide coalition that is fighting these proposals and defending California’s commitment to a clean energy future. RACE is working also working in Oregon as LNG terminals proposed there are largely driven by the California energy market.

We believe California can meet its energy needs—and chart an independent energy future—by increasing the efficiency of our power plants and investing in renewable energy. That is why we are also one of the leading members of the Local Clean Energy Alliance of the East Bay (LCEA). The LCEA is working towards a 100 percent renewable future for the East Bay Area.
