Mission: China Green Student Forum (GSF) was established in 1996, and has become a Beijing-based student environmental network of approximately 130 student environmental groups from various universities nationwide. Its mission is to promote solidarity of the youth to save China's environment.

Programs/Strategies: GSF initiates programs on the ground in its widespread national network and organizes diverse workshops and seminars on environmental issues throughout China. Since 2005, member organizations of GSF including Green Fingers of Beijing Forestry University and Green Day of Beijing Technology and Business University, have been developing projects related to Beijing’s water quality, in particular that of the Tonghui River.

Current Project(s): With support from organizations like Pacific Environment, GSF has used the results of a multi-year investigation of Beijing’s rivers to launch a series of educational and entertainment events for students and community residents under the banner of “River Cultures of Beijing”. GSF produced a Green Travel Brochure and a “River Cultures of Beijing” map to document the important history, cultures and utilities of Beijing’s Rivers. They will be widely distributed and promoted in the booming tourist industry.

Green Student Forum has been instrumental in actively promoting and educating the younger generation about the importance of water conservation in particular and of environmental activism in general.

This year, GSF launched an unprecedented project to train a new generation of environmental campaigners to carry on the fight against water pollution. Project participants will receive classroom lectures on water-specific environmental issues; participate in field work to get hands-on understanding of water conditions in communities; and intern with partnering-NGOs during their semester breaks to learn about the inner workings of NGOs and how to implement their own projects.
