Sun Qingwei

Director of China Program of National Geographic Society

Sun Qingwei currently Directs National Geographic Society’s China Program, which provides grants for science and exploration to protect air and water resources across China. An energy policy and campaign expert, Dr. Sun was formerly the China Climate Coordinator at Pacific Environment and a coal campaigner with Greenpeace East Asia. From 2003 to 2010, he was an Associate Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research has focused on sustainable development of arid land. Sun Qingwei received a Ph.D. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Physical Geography and a B.S. from Lanzhou University in Physical Geography.
