Doug Norlen
Doug’s work at Friends of the Earth advances the organization’s campaigns to reform international trade rules, get big money out of politics, and promote sustainable finance policies at public and private financial institutions. Prior to joining Friends of the Earth, Doug spent 18 years at Pacific Environment as Policy Director and managing the Responsible Finance Program. His work has been instrumental in achieving successful improvements in U.S. bilateral financing policies, and has helped establish and implement first-ever climate change and accountability reforms at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
Doug is also a leader in international NGO coalition efforts to reform export credit agencies. His work has helped lead these agencies to adopt environmental and social policies which, since 2002, have been applied to over $130 billion in financing for environmentally risky projects worldwide. He also spearheaded Pacific Environment’s entry as an advocate at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Doug has a master’s degree in international studies from the University of Oregon.
